Opelika woman arrested for identity theft, theft of property

AUBURN, Ala. – On March 12, 2025, Auburn Police, with assistance from the Opelika Police Department, arrested Leslie Hornsby Winter, from Opelika, Alabama, on felony warrants charging her with identity theft and theft of property first degree.

The arrest stems from Auburn Police receiving a report involving a theft from a business on Feb. 24, 2025. A complainant associated with the business reported that multiple fraudulent checks had been issued from the business’ bank account since Nov. 2024. The forged checks were used in multiple unauthorized transactions, causing financial loss.

Leslie Hornsby Winter was developed as a suspect. After further investigation, arrest warrants for identity theft and theft of property first degree were obtained. The Opelika Police Department assisted with locating Winter and on March 12, 2025, she was arrested in obedience to the warrants.

Winter was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
